Computer I use an IBM laptop computer in the observatory. After I take the pictures, I need to stack and process the pictures. Stacking is taking a number of the same pictures and combining them together to get more detail. I then take out any blur and adjust the shading, color, noise, etc. There are several programs that provide this process. The two software programs I use are Adobe Photoshop and AstroArt. Neither one of these does a great job stacking. I will hopefully soon be adding some more pictures to this site. I have now finally updated my software. I purchased a program called Maxim DL/CDD. A very good program, in fact many astronomers use it. The program cotnrols your camera, scope, dome and all other functions. It's a little pricey, but worth the money. I just recently purchased a new laptop. An IBM Pentium IV, a very fast and efficient machine. It is not essential to go out and buy the newest high powered laptop for the job. My old Pentium 90Mhz with 16MB RAM which I got from eBay for around $300 did a great job. If you look there, you may find a good deal on a small laptop. I mainly use the laptop with my MX716 CCD camera by Starlight Express, and my recent addition of the new Meade LPI video imager to capture images. My new setup is that I am now wireless network. I can operate my scope in the observatory from my den in the house. This is sure a great time in history to be alive.
